Oma Podi Recipe

I have always thought that home made snacks are difficult to make. I couldn't change my opinion until I prepared this awesome, very popular south indian snack 'Oma Podi'. You can also use this snack as an ingredient for Bhel Puri, Mixture and many other snacks. It is very easy to do and takes only 15 to 20 mts to prepare.

Ingredients:

Omum (ajwain)-1 tbsp
Besan (gram flour) -1 1/2 cup
Rice flour-1/2 cup
Chilli Powder -1/2 tsp
Hing a couple of pinches
Salt to taste

Method:

Soak omum (Ajwain) in warm water for about an hour.

Grind it along with water.

You can use this grinded paste or you can strain the grinded liquid and use only the water to prepare the dough. Both ways are good, however if you use the paste containing ajwain you have more of omum taste to your oma podi.

In a small bowl mix all the ingredients together and knead the dough with omum water.

Make the dough to chapati dough consistency.

In a big kadai add oil for deep frying and let it become hot.

With the help of the omapodi presser add small portions of dough and squeeze it in small portions into the hot oil .

If you feel very hard to press then lossen the dough a little bit and try again.

Once the Omapodi is ready, take it out and drain the excess oil.

Server them with with chutneys, tea/coffee or you can eat it without any side dish.

Happy Cooking!
